Monsters Inc and Monster University

Monsters Inc was one of the first animated movies to require quite so much hair (particularly on Sully, one of the main characters). Because of this challenge, Disney started to innovate around how hair was created and groomed.

This article gives some background about the creation of the film


The follow up film Monsters University was also a huge technological challenge and one which, according to venture beat, took 100 million CPU hours to render.


Maya XGen

During the course of my research project I will mix elements of real world studying of fur and working through technical tutorials, particularly using  Maya Xgen Interactive Grooming.





Zootopia

Walt Disney Animation Studio's Zootopia is one of the most impressive examples of fur animation due to the huge variety of fur textures and types required (different for each animal).

Introduction

This blog will showcase my research on creating fur and hair for animation. I will be primarily using Maya for any examples of fur in 3d. I will also be linking to various interesting videos, articles and research on the topic of Fur and Hair in 3d animation.
